Survey Monitoring Services

Monitoring protects assets, manages construction risk and verifies the performance of critical infrastructure. We design programmes around the actual risks, accuracies and constraints of your site.

WHY IT MATTERS

The Data Has to Be Trustworthy

Monitoring is not simply about collecting observations. It is about producing dependable, repeatable data that engineers and asset owners can act on.

  • Baselines That Were Never Solid

If the first observation was taken from unreliable control, every reading after it inherits the problem.

  • Method Changing Mid-Programme

Different equipment, different targets or a different surveyor part way through, and the trend line becomes uninterpretable.

  • Insufficient Coverage

A small number of monitoring points can miss deformation happening between them entirely.

  • Reporting That Arrives Too Late

A reading that crosses a threshold is only useful if the project team hears about it in time to respond.

WHAT WE MONITOR

Assets and Situations

We deliver monitoring programmes for the assets where movement genuinely has to be measured and reported.

  • Bridges and Structures

Bridges, buildings and other critical infrastructure through construction and into operation.

  • Retaining and Excavation Support

Retaining walls and excavation support systems, where movement carries immediate safety consequences.

  • Heritage Structures

Heritage assets adjacent to works, where a defensible record of condition and movement matters as much as the readings.

  • Long-Term Programmes

Scheduled observations and ongoing reporting through Defects Liability Periods until handover is complete.

OUR APPROACH

Designed Around Your Site

Every project presents different challenges, so we design the solution to suit the specific risks, accuracies and constraints.

  • Conventional Total Station Monitoring

Established control networks and precise repeated observations where discrete points give the answer.

  • Laser Scanning Based Monitoring

Millions of measurement points across an entire structure for comprehensive deformation and surface comparison.

  • Consistent QA Throughout

Strict quality assurance procedures maintained from the first observation to the final report.

What Monitoring Is For

Structural monitoring plays a critical role in protecting assets, managing construction risk and verifying the performance of important infrastructure throughout construction and beyond.

We deliver programmes for bridges, buildings, retaining walls, excavation support systems, heritage structures and other critical assets where movement has to be accurately measured and reported.

Repeatability Is the Whole Point

Monitoring is not simply about collecting observations. It is about providing dependable, repeatable data that engineers and asset owners can trust.

Our surveyors establish robust control networks, implement strict quality assurance procedures and maintain consistency throughout the life of a project. A movement trend is only meaningful if the method behind it never changed, which is why consistency matters more here than raw precision.

Monitoring Past Practical Completion

Many projects require monitoring well beyond construction completion. We design and manage programmes that continue through Defects Liability Periods, providing scheduled observations, ongoing reporting and long-term survey support until project handover is complete.

Planning that at the start rather than the end means the baseline and the method carry through, instead of a new surveyor establishing a new baseline halfway.

Laser Scanning Based Monitoring

For complex assets, and situations where traditional monitoring may not provide sufficient coverage, we use terrestrial laser scanning to capture millions of measurement points across entire structures.

This enables comprehensive deformation analysis, surface comparisons and movement assessments, giving engineers a far more complete understanding of structural behaviour over time than a set of discrete points can.

Designed to the Site, Not a Template

Every project presents different challenges, which is why we design monitoring solutions to suit the specific risks, required accuracies and site constraints.

That ranges from conventional total station monitoring through to detailed laser scanning based monitoring, and frequently a combination of both on the same asset.

FAQs

Survey Monitoring Questions

  • It is driven by the number of observation cycles more than anything else, so the schedule is the main lever. Establishing the control network and baseline is a one-off cost, then each cycle is priced from there. Longer programmes running through a Defects Liability Period get a better rate than ad hoc visits. Tell us the asset and the likely duration and we will build a schedule and a price around it.

  • It depends on the risk and what is happening nearby. Excavation adjacent to a structure may need daily or weekly readings during the critical period, then monthly as it stabilises. We design the frequency around the actual risk rather than applying a standard interval.

  • You hear about it immediately. A reading that crosses a trigger level is only useful if the project team can respond, so escalation is part of the programme design rather than something that turns up in the next monthly report.

  • Before the works that might cause movement, always. Without a baseline taken beforehand there is nothing to compare against, and demonstrating that movement did or did not occur becomes very difficult after the fact.

  • Yes. For complex assets we use terrestrial laser scanning to capture millions of points across an entire structure, which enables deformation analysis and surface comparison that discrete monitoring points cannot provide.

  • Yes. We work across metro Melbourne, South West Victoria and Gippsland. For regional assets we schedule the cycles to make the travel efficient rather than charging it as an extra each visit.
