Project Overview

Outright Surveying provided comprehensive surveying and spatial support for the $126 million redevelopment of the 12 Apostles Visitor Experience Precinct.

Working alongside Kane Constructions, Dundrum Civil, AusScapes, WKE Geelong and Cooke & Dowsett, our team supported the project across civil, structural, building, services and landscape works.

Our involvement extended from initial survey control and design coordination through to construction setout, machine control, verification and final as-constructed documentation, providing consistent survey support throughout delivery.



Site Challenges

The project presented a unique combination of environmental, cultural and construction challenges.

Located within a highly sensitive coastal environment, works required careful planning and coordination to minimise disturbance while maintaining construction accuracy and productivity.

As a Design and Construct project, survey management also played an important role in identifying design clashes, reviewing constructability and supporting proposed design solutions before works reached the field.

The site's exposed location near the Southern Ocean introduced further challenges, with strong winds, rain and rapidly changing weather conditions affecting both field operations and construction sequencing.

Coordination between multiple contractors, disciplines and design packages also required accurate and timely spatial information to keep works aligned and minimise rework.



Our Approach

Outright provided an integrated survey management service across the project, working closely with the construction, civil, structural and services teams.

Our scope included establishment and maintenance of site survey control, construction setout, design verification, machine control data preparation and ongoing coordination of survey information between consultants and contractors.

We reviewed design information prior to construction to identify potential clashes and inconsistencies, assisting project teams with constructability reviews and proposed solutions where required.

Machine control models and construction data were prepared and verified for bulk earthworks and road construction, helping crews work efficiently while maintaining compliance with project design.

Regular verification and as-constructed surveys provided the project team with reliable information throughout construction, allowing issues to be identified early rather than at completion.
